The Vallabhacharya Jayanti is celebrated on the day of Ekadashi of the Hindu Vaishakha month. It is the eleventh lunar day of the fortnight of the diminishing moon. This day is considered as the birth anniversary of Vallabhacharya. Vallabhacharya was born in Varanasi, India in 1479 A.D. to a Telegu Brahmin family. He is also known as Vallabha who is the founder of the Pushti sect. The beliefs of Shuddha Advaita meaning pure non-dualism and Krishna centered Pushtimarg of Vaishnavism of the Braj region was founded by Vallabha who was also an enthusiastic philosopher.

It is believed that Vallabha in the form of Shrinathji met Lord Krishna. Other beliefs are that Vallabhacharya is the reincarnation of the Fire God i.e. Agni Devta. Lord Krishna and Shri Vallabhacharya are considered alike and therefore, Vallabhacharya Jayanti is celebrated by the devotees with great passion and zeal. This day has its special importance in Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. This festival is celebrated on a grand scale at the temple of Nathdwara and people chant prayers for Vallabhacharya.

Rabindranath Tagore was born on May 7th, 1861. This day is celebrated as his birth anniversary. This is the 25th day of the Bengali month of Boishakh. Rabindranath Tagore was a great Indian polymath. He has a made a wide contribution in the field of Bengali and English Literature and this can be determined by the respect his name commands at every utterance. He was known as the Bard of Bengal and he is best remembered for his beautiful verse which is sensitive and has a magical touch. Surdas was born in 1478 C.E. in Faridabad, Haryana. The village in which he was born is known as Sihi. Because of his fine poetry and music, he became famous widely and the Mughal emperor, Akbar became his patron. About hundred thousand songs has been written and composed by Surdas of which only 8000 are in existence. His magnum opus is known as “Sur Sagar” (Ocean of Melody).
